In 1961, after seeing Bil Baird’s script for “The Magic Onion” in Woman’s Day magazine, Nancy Schmale and Alice Swann came together to create a puppet show. Neither of them had ever performed with puppets before, but that production became the basis of a collaboration that lasted over fifty years.
